HOTEL IN VIA DELLA SCALA IN FLORENCE
Via della Scala, 6 is the prestigious address of the Hotel Palazzo dal Borgo, which is a 1480 Renaissance palace in Florence that once belonged to the Medici dal Borgo family,
and is one of the city’s historic monuments.
The fact that it is number 6 means that it is very close to the Church dof Santa Maria Novella as Via della Scala starts from the square on which this important Florentine monument stands.
And so a good way to start to get to know the city is to begin with Via della Scala , one of Florence’s historic streets which is called after the former hospital of Santa Maria
della Scala founded in 1313.
The first part of Via della Scala , the part close to the hotel, has many former
religious and charity complexes as well as buildings that were restored in the 19th-century.
The right-hand side of the street mostly consists of the back of the Convent
of Santa Maria Novella: at number 16 we find the l’Antica Officina Profumo-Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella,
one of the oldest pharmacies in the world which is visited by millions of people
every year.
Every corner of Via della Scala, on which the hotel stands, tells of the glorious history of Florence: it is still possible to admire the Palazzo Venturi-Ginori which is adjcent to the Orti Oricellari, then the façade
of the deconsecrated Church of San Jacopo di Ripoli and the Corsini Garden which
has a handsome portal and gate.
